Rusty waits to see what is expected of him before he gets a treat.

Rusty has a lot of fans at the shelter. A lot of us have adopted one or more shelter animals already and bemoan the fact that we haven’t room for Rusty.

Rusty is a “mature” five year old boxer/pit mix. By mature, I do not mean to suggest that he is old for his age or that he is low energy and sleeps all day. Indeed not. You should see him running around the playground with the giant egg ball!

Yet, he is not manically energetic. He has just the right amount of energy but he is also calm. He is Mr. Cool. Being with Rusty reminds me of a line in the prose poem Desiderata: “Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remember what peace there may be in silence.”

Rusty is always happy to see his human friends approach his cage and he loves his walkies. He focuses on you as though you are the most important person in the world because just then you really are!

He’s a good walker too. Volunteers look forward to walking with Rusty. And you do walk with Rusty. You don’t pull him. He doesn’t pull you. You walk together.

As I said, Rusty likes to romp around in the play yard too… almost as much as he likes rolling around in the grass, snorting happily in anticipation of belly rubs. Oh yeah, he loves the belly rubs. There can be no doubt about that. And treats. He definitely likes his treats! I wonder what confusion you might incite in poor Rusty is you had him choose between a belly rub and a treat?

Oh, let’s not. Poor Rusty. His big ol’ head might just burst!

Rusty came in as a stray and no one came looking for him. Can you imagine? He is such a good boy. He loves people and is warm, cheerful and friendly. I think this adaptable fellow will make a friend of you in no time and shortly after you take him home it will seem as though he’s always lived there.
